I got to meet John yesterday at the Wisconsin Deer & Turkey Expo. I wanted to get to his booth early to discuss my 3 soil samples and plots before the masses arrived. I must say I think John was as excited to talk about my upcoming planting as I was. After our conversation we had all the plantings planned out, lime requirements, fertilizer requirements and all the other particulars figured out. All my supplies will be ready and waiting at my local G.R.O. distributor for pick up. I will use this post as a log so everyone can follow along. I will post as many pictures as I can for visuals. I can't wait to get started.

With a little delay, I got the two fingers planted on Saturday. I had intended to take Friday off work to do the planting, but on Thursday afternoon I got an e-mail from my brother telling me he had a flat tire on his tractor and was unsure when he would be able to get it fixed. With the holiday weekend no telling who will be open when. I just assumed the planting was not going to get done this weekend. However on Friday evening my brother called and said the tire was fixed. So instead of fishing on Saturday, I was planting. Anyway, the seed is in the ground with a silver lining that we got a good soaking rain on Saturday night into Sunday morning. I will post some pictures the next time I get up there.
As far as the North Field goes, that is just too wet to do anything with yet. So once it dries we will plow and work on weed control and plant after Aug 1.
I see that you are adding potassium, as my fields are lacking. I will be planting when it stops raining and warms up. I hope that it rains after I plant. Good luck and keep us posted.
Keep them coming
Good post and best of luck.
FINALLY.... seed will be going in the ground on Friday in two of the plots, the North and South Fingers. The North Field is still too wet to plow. Hopefully in another week we can at least get a plow in the ground there.
Mother Nature is just not co-operating. She needs to turn off the faucet so things can dry out.
Very nice. Good luck with the plots.
Bought my seed for these three plots yesterday. With John's help here's what we're doing;
North Field: Mass Builder, Frosty Delight, and Fall Draw. No lime required, 0-0-60 fertilizer
South Finger: Frosty Delight, 200# Pellet Lime, 75# 0-0-60 fertilizer 50# urea
North Finger: Inner Sanctum, 200# Pellet Lime, 50# 0-0-60 fertilizer, 50# urea
Now I wait for Mother Nature to co-operate and get this seed in the ground.
I was up at the property on Saturday, took some "before" pictures
Top picture is what we call the "North Field" approx. 2.5 acres. Took this picture under the tree we will put a stand. This plot will be planted with a couple different forages.
The middle picture is the "South Finger" approx. 1/4 acre. Behind me is a 57 acre alfalfa field, deer come out of the far side and browse on the way to the alfalfa field.
This picture is the "North Finger" approx 1/4 acre. Only the brushy ditch on the right separates the north and south fingers. Behind me is the same alfalfa field. I shot my 8 pointer last season in the corner on the left by the cedar tree. He was heading out to the alfalfa field with 3 other bucks going to join the 11 does that my son said were already in the alfalfa field. My son shot one of the does about the same time I shot my buck.
I look forward to the progress you are making!
Looking forward to your results.
