So this is my small Grains N Greens plot planted 3 weeks ago. As you can see in my soil sample my soil is horrible! I asked for recomendations for seed and what to do with the soil via email and got them pretty quick. I used a homade ripper/subsoiler to tear up and out all the roots and rocks. I then used a 3 "C" shank cultivator with 10" sweeps to get the soil prepped. Then used a homemade drag to clean up all the roots etc. Prior to seeding I limed (pellet) and fertilized to recomendations then re-cultivated to get it in the soil. Used the drag again then sprayed grandpa ray's 4-15-12 seed starter. Broadcasted seed then used a lawn roller to get the seed to soil contact. And this is what it's looking like. I honestly don't know if this is good growth for the time or not. Any comments and or suggestions appreciated!

Yes. My plan is to keep this plot going year round
I planted Soil Builder in one plot this year this spring. That was the best germination and coverage ever for that plot in very sandy soil. This summer was unusual in northern Michigan. Too many summer nights in the 40's.
I would suggest following that with something for the fall.
In Spring get a soil sample done, fert and lime and plant the soil builder seed mix. I have another little section right next to this one that I may do as well. In the future I would like to have the whole area (approx. an acre) as a food plot
Great start. Just curious, what is planned next?
Thanks! And yes. I am in North central Arkanas.
That plot must be a testimony to using the seed starter. Do not know where you are located. I am in northern lower peninsula Michigan, like a couple of guys above. From my experience, that is a fine start on that plot and it will only get better. Nice deer.
Congats polkdog and jjszep.
So this is now at just over 3 months. Deer have been using the plot regularly and I have taken a couple with my crossbow so far this year. It's not grown to its potential due to the soil but I know this plot can (and will) be better in the future! I am super pleased at how it has turned out!
Thanks to John and GRO!
Yeah. We got some really warm days recenty. This Grains & Greens Plot is 5 or (maybe 6) Weeks old. This was planted at John Obrion's recommendation. It was "Spiked" with a little "Fall Draw"
Polkdoggie and I planted the same mix on my property at 3 wk it did not look as good as yours at 3 weeks but is coming up good. In our location (Northern Michigan) we have not had our typical rain fall and temps were on the low side, it seems to get going for us at the 5wk stage.
Thanks! I'm hoping it keeps going!
It looks really good. I have a plot of Grains & Greens that is about 5 weeks old and is just starting to look like what you have there.
